Italy announces pre-filled annual VAT returns for certain taxpayers

The Italian authorities have announced the introduction of pre-filled annual VAT returns for certain taxpayers from February 2023.

With pre-filled tax declarations, the data is first made available real-time to the authorities via the Sistema Di Intercambio (SDI), the government’s invoicing platform, and pre-completed in an online draft.

Eligible Italian VAT payers have the possibility to amend the pre-filled information if necessary before submitting their annual return. The first pre-filled draft returns were published on 10th February 2023 in respect of the tax year of 2022. These pre-completed annual returns were released on an experimental basis for now and are only available to taxpayers resident and established in Italy.
